"An Evolution" consists of a synthesis of plant and non-plant elements to display expressions of human emotion. I selected this due to my personal fascination with plants. In my perception of the world, everything stems from nature, with plants being the fundamental basis of life. Plant life is of the most basic positions of life. In this sense, they can be manipulated to become whatever is wanted, and my artworks aim to use them to portray an expression of human emotion. By working with other elements, such as human features and anatomy, the pieces relate to the human component of feelings. The artworks aim to offer a visual representation that viewers can relate to emotionally. I have personally dedicated several years to caring for several varieties of plant life, carefully observing their structure. Using my observations, both realistic and surreal elements show in my work. My usage of watercolor as my primary medium translates to the fluidity of emotion. Emotions are often not starkly separated, rather more muddy, blending into one another, similar to the interaction of watercolors. I aim to better my realistic watercolor capabilities through this series of works. Specifically, my art juxtaposes heartache with the process of recovery. Half of the pieces convey heartbreak; a seemingly inescapable sense of despair and abandonment. On the flipside, others display recovery and growth of oneself.
